Benjamin Franklin once said, “A penny saved is a penny earned.”  But in today’s world, how many people actually abide by that principle?  With our nation’s youth making more and more financial decisions at younger ages, the need for financial literacy in teens is crucial.  To be successful as adults and meet those needs, the trend toward in-school financial education is growing.  Peapack-Gladstone Bank realizes the value of financial literacy in youth and has recently become a pioneer in supporting and providing schools with the tools they need to better equip our youth with valuable financial literacy skills.

Teaming up with EverFi, a leading education technology software company focused on financial literacy, Peapack-Gladstone Bank has recently sponsored an integrated on-line student program at both the North Plainfield and West Morris Central High Schools.  The EverFi Financial Literacy platform is a web-based program utilizing the latest technologies in video, animation, 3-D gaming and other technologies – all aimed at bringing complex financial concepts (like budgeting, credit cards, savings, student loans, etc.) to life for today’s digital generation.  These programs are customized to support existing New Jersey standards for financial literacy as required by the U.S. Department of Education.

Peapack-Gladstone Bank has offered the EverFi program to students and schools - at no cost.  To date, 181 students at North Plainfield High School and 60 students at West Morris Central High School have received certification in financial literacy after completing the EverFi 10-module, 6-hour program integrated into their school curriculum. Here is what one student had to say, “When I first started using EverFi, I thought it was another lesson type of thing; but when I continued with it, I realized I benefited from the future life values it teaches about the economy, money, spending, savings, homes and car insurance.  All of these are things you don’t learn about every day.  EverFi really helped me understand what my economic future might be like and taught me to make smart decisions.”

When it came to giving back to the community, I chose to support the Library and served as a Board member for 15 ...
