CHATHAM, NJ - One of the best recruits Chatham basketball coach Todd Erwin has ever lured onto the court is Devynn Pedell, who wows the crowd before almost every home game.

Pedell's rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner is so good that it draws warm applause from both Chatham fans and their opponents.

"I had coach Ervin as my gym teacher my freshman year and we were talking about how I like to act and sing," Pedell said. "One day he asked me if I wanted to sing the national anthem. I said 'sure,' and I've been singing it the past two and a half years. It's been really nice. It's a great gig.

"I've never had the opportunity to sing it before and it's been really nice. I'm also a big basketball fan. I like being here for the team. It's been really fun."

Pedell will be singing the natonal anthem on Saturday before Chatham's 7 p.m. tipoff against Montville in the Morris County Tournament.

There will be other  opportunities to hear and see the junior, who has been working professionally as an actress since the age of five. She'll be playing the part of Reno Sweeney in Chatham High's production of Anything Goes, which opens March 6 and also will be performed on March 7 and 8.

Pedell, whose goal is to act and sing for a living, recently did a commercial for Subway.

Clearly, we found the Library and local educational opportunities to our liking.

When it came to giving back to the community, I chose to support the Library and served as a Board member for 15 ...
