The Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township (PCCT) is pleased to welcome its new Director of Music, Mark Kaczmarczyk. A gifted choral director, organist, and acclaimed conductor, Mark brings to PCCT an impressive musical career and extensive range of experiences, from universities and K-12 schools to other church congregations. At PCCT, Mark will be responsible for overseeing all musical groups, including choirs, ensembles, and bells, as well as planning music for all worship services and special concerts. Mark also currently serves as Director of Music at the Far Brook School in Short Hills, New Jersey.
“We are excited about the potential for growth that Mark brings to the church program with his background,” said the Reverend Dr. Ed Halldorson, senior pastor at PCCT. “We know he will be able to tap into and cultivate the different talents in our congregation.”
Mark Kaczmarczyk comes to PCCT from Christ Church in Manhasset, Long Island, where he also served as Music Director. Prior to Christ Church, Mark served for seven years as music director/organist for a large congregation in Greenwich, Connecticut, where he expanded the choral program, launched a hugely successful concert series featuring choral and orchestral master works, and developed a fully graded choral program. He has previously served on the voice and conducting faculties at the University of Oregon and was Director of Opera and Musical Theater at Ithaca College. He also served as Guest Music Director for the World Youth Leadership Conference hosted by George Washington University, conducting over 300 high school youth from 35 countries in a two-week summer seminar embracing themes of youth leadership, service, international relations, and music.
Acclaimed for his excellent performances by Chamber Music America Magazine, Mark has conducted internationally acclaimed artists of our time, including counter tenor David Daniels, pianists Jonathan Biss and James Tocco, and the late Ruth Laredo. He has appeared as a soloist at the Aspen Music Festival, Oregon Bach Festival, Michigan Opera Theater, Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, Cleveland Baroque Festival, Apollo's Fire, and the American Choral Directors Convention. In NYC he has appeared as bass baritone at the Mostly Mozart Festival Live from Lincoln Center, American Symphony Orchestra, New York Choral Artists with the New York Philharmonic, off-Broadway at LaMama Theater, and in Julie Taymor's "Grendel" for Lincoln Center Festival.
Mark holds a Master's Degree in conducting from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, a post graduate fellowship in voice from the University of Michigan, and has pursued Doctoral studies at the Cincinnati College Conservatory, CCM, where he was chorus master for main stage opera productions and Director of the University Men's and Women's Choruses.
