Public Service Electric & Gas, New Jersey's largest utility, is upgrading and replacing gas facilities in the Borough of Chatham to ensure safe, reliable utility service for area residents and business owners.
PSE&G is installing a new 12" steel gas main and replacing associated gas service lines. Work will be done on North Passaic Avenue beginning at Main Street (US Highway 124) and continue east until the intersection of Weston Avenue. About 1,700 feet of gas main and 37 service lines will be installed.
Construction will begin on or about July 1 and will continue until approximately August 30, 2010. Scheduled work hours are 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Work may take place occasionally on Saturdays throughout the project.
Minor road closings and some lane restrictions will be necessary at times during the project but interruptions will be kept to a minimum. Local police will be on site to direct traffic flow. PSE&G regrets any inconvenience the project may cause.
For everyone's safety, PSE&G crews use work area protection. Traffic cones and utility work signs will allow the job to be done safely. The utility reminds motorists to slow down when driving through the area.
