I would like to thank Congressman Frelinghuysen's staff member who took the time to reply to my letter (Where is Rodney? January 4).

I have not spent a lifetime in politics as Mr. Frelinghuysen has, so perhaps that is why I do not consider it a significant success to wait 10 weeks while New Jerseyans recovered from Sandy to finally vote on a bill to deliver aid.  This was significantly longer than the ten days it took to deliver aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina and other storms such as hurricanes Andrew, Ike and Gustav. Until Governor Christie, Representative Peter King and others with the political courage challenged their own party, Congressman Frelinghuysen's bill could not even get an up-or-down vote in the last Congress.

So let us focus on facts.

Congressman Frelinghuysen’s so-called success in working his party “behind the scenes” delivered a mere 38 Republican votes in favor of the Congressman's amendment. Democrats backed the bill 190-2 while his party opposed it overwhelmingly, 190-38.

Only in Washington would a man go on a taxpayer-funded junket to Southeast Asia while his constituents suffered in the storm aftermath, return to have his own party refuse to vote on the bill and then brag about this record of success.

April 9, 2018

Dear Editor,

With spring holding off threats of snow, recent memories of the Nor’Easter that paralyzed the region are still engraved in my mind. In the height of the last big storm a 65 foot tall, 2½ foot wide white pine gave way to the heavy snow and landed on the house pulling our power line down, 1700 other Chathamites had lost power and trees were down ...
