The Senior Center of the Chathams will screen a series of DVD’s beginning Monday, Sept 12th from 10 am – 11:30. The series entitled “The Power of Art” is presented by renowned art historian Simon Schama. He explores the power and passion of art, examining eight of history's most influential works. Follow the progression of artistic vision through the ages, from 17th-century Europe to 1950s New York, with historical reenactments and Schama's trademark storytelling. Each week the program features in-depth stories behind the works of 2 artists. Week one (Sept 12): "Caravaggio: Painting Gets Physical," and "Gianlorenzo Bernini: The Miracle Worker". Week two (Sept 19): "Rembrandt van Rijn: Rough Stuff in the Halls of the Rich” and "Jacques-Louis David: Airbrushing the Revolution. "Week three (Sept 27): "JWM Turner: Painting up a Storm" and "Van Gogh: Painting from the Inside of the Head." Week four (Oct 3): "Picasso: Modern art Goes Political" and "Rothko: The Music of Beyond in the City of Glitter." All are invited to attend. No registration is needed.
