CHATHAM, NJ - Nearly 100 residents of Chatham and surrounding towns turned out to watch Gregory Gaultier of France, the world’s reigning squash champion, play an exhibition match on Monday, Oct. 6, at The Chatham Club.
Known as “Asterisk,” Gaultier’s titles include winner of the British Open, US Open, and the Tournament of Champions. Most recently, Gaultier won his second NetSuite Open in three years in San Francisco, defeating former world champion Amr Shabana of Egypt.
His opponent for the special event in Chatham was Shahier Razik of Canada, who has been ranked as high as 20th in the world by the Professional Squash Association. Razik is currently ranked 96th in the world, and he is 36th in the world series rankings.
Gaultier and Razik conducted junior clinics prior to their exhibition match, which Gaultier won 3-1 (11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 11-5).
