SPARTA, NJ - Lefthander Matt Stamford pitched a two-hit shutout in leading Chatham to a 1-0 baseball victory over state-ranked Pope John on Wednesday.

Chatham (6-2) gave Stamford the only run he needed in the top of the first when Sean Lee scored from third on the back end of a double steal. Andrew Bergman stole second base and when the throw to the bag was late, Lee sprinted home for the 1-0 lead.

Stamford, a senior headed to play baseball at Lehigh next fall, shut down Pope John (5-2) by striking out nine and walking one.
