Generous Madison Stop & Shop customers donated almost $5,000, for the second year, to the Madison Area YMCA’s 2014 Annual Campaign through Stop & Shop’s Annual Food for Friends Drive. Stop & Shop chose the Madison Area YMCA as its charity recipient for the drive, where customers were asked to make donations at checkout.

“We are honored that Stop & Shop once again selected the Madison Area YMCA to receive its customers’ generous donations,” said Madison Area YMCA President & CEO Diane Mann. “Stop and Shop’s spirit of caring and generosity sets a wonderful example and their gift will help assure that the Y can be available to everyone regardless of their income levels.”

The Madison Area YMCA’s Annual Campaign raises awareness and funds for the Y’s financial assistance program that enables children and families, who work or reside within the Madison Area YMCA’s service area, to participate in Y membership, programs and services including child care, early childhood education and summer camps, regardless of their abilities to pay. Support is provided based upon demonstrated need. All donations remain local. The Annual Campaign also helps the Y broaden its reach into initiating enriching community wellness and health-enhancing programs such as LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, for cancer survivors, and Walk with Ease, an arthritis program, debuting soon.

A nonprofit community organization, the Madison Area YMCA kicks off its Annual Campaign by raising funds through a staff appeal. The campaign then rolls out to Y Board members and Y members and the community in February, led by a group of more than 60 volunteer campaigners.

Clearly, we found the Library and local educational opportunities to our liking.

When it came to giving back to the community, I chose to support the Library and served as a Board member for 15 ...
