Summit Third Grader Jack Melchiorre Raises More Than $70,000 to Help Fight Pediatric Cancer

Jack Melchiorre, who has remarkably raised more than $70,000 to fight Pediatric Cancer.

SUMMIT, NJ - Lincoln-Hubbard Elementary School Third Grader Jack Melchiorre figured if his cousins could do it, so could he.

So, inspired by previous campaigns undertaken by his older relatives -- who “Braved the Shave” with the St Baldrick’s Foundation -- Melchiorre assumed the mantle and is raising funds in preparation --  anticipation? -- for / of shaving his noggin to help conquer childhood cancers.

To date, he has raised more than $70,000 to support pediatric cancer research at the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

That's right, $70,000, The sum alone would fund over a half-year’s worth of research for a specific project.

St. Baldrick’s 'shavees' -- like Melchiorre -- raise money for research by shaving their heads in solidarity with children fighting cancer at St. Baldrick’s signature head-shaving events. When asked why he wants to support St. Baldrick's, Melchiorre replied succinctly, "I want to get rid of childhood cancers."

Melchiorre's shave event is scheduled for April 17 in Summit. To help support Jack on his fundraising quest, visit

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer and donor-powered charity committed to supporting the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. It is the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants, second only to the U.S. Government.
