Letter to the Editor:

Thank you for going to the polls on November 5th and putting your faith in us to represent Chatham Township residents in navigating the challenges we face as a community and in healing the partisan divide.

It was a pleasure to meet with residents over the past few months and listen to your concerns and priorities for the Township.  Most of the comments we received were related to taxes and overdevelopment – the related clear-cutting of trees and flooding as well as the impact on traffic and our schools.  We talked with residents about the Dixiedale 54-townhome development, the related 24-unit affordable housing “skate park” development, the 100% affordable development of another 74-rental units, and the various other issues that will challenge our municipal budget.  We will continue to monitor progress on these issues and seek input from residents over the next couple of months so we can hit the ground running when we’re sworn in on Jan 2, 2020.

We want to thank our volunteers, supporters and our families for the sacrifices they made to shepherd our campaign to success.  Their energy and enthusiasm were infectious and we are truly humbled by their generosity and the countless hours spent in support of the Ewald Fondaco campaign.  A special thanks goes to our campaign coordinator, Genevieve Castelino for her counsel, her expertise and the many hours she spent strategizing, creating media and coordinating dozens of volunteers.  We could not have done it without her!

We’d also like to thank our opponents Rez Estevez and Mark Hamilton for running.  We appreciate the importance of different points of view in evaluating issues, resolving problems and planning for our future.  In our democracy, dialogue is critical to maintaining an efficient and effective government that serves ALL of our residents.  We hope Ms. Estevez and Mr. Hamilton will stay engaged in Township government and share their expertise and insight for the benefit of the town we all love.

We are honored to serve as your Chatham Township Committee representatives.  We look forward to working with our residents, the Township Administrator and staff, and our fellow Committee men and women in building a stronger, more united Chatham Township.

Thank you!

Stacey Ewald and Celeste Fondaco
