On September 13th, TransOptions recognized Chatham Borough with its 2018 New Jersey Smart Workplaces (NJSW) and Safe Routes to Schools (SRTS) awards, as part of its annual recognition breakfast.

TransOptions is an organization that delivers programs and services that improve mobility, the environment and overall quality of life in northwestern New Jersey.

Representatives from Chatham Borough accepted two awards from TransOptions. The first award was a "silver" recognition for NJSW program. NJSW, which is a free program, annually recognizes employers for promoting commute alternatives for their employees. Employers earn the NJSW designation by offering sustainable workplace practices including conducting on-site transportation events, supporting the formation of carpools and vanpools, providing bicycle racks, offering flextime or teleworking and making transit schedules readily available.

The second award was for the attainment of "silver" recognition (2018-2020) for the New Jersey SRTS program. This program makes walking and bicycling around our neighborhoods and schools fun, easy, safe and healthy for all students and families.  SRTS initiatives also help ease traffic jams and air pollution, reduce our reliance on cars, unite neighborhoods and contribute to students' readiness to learn in school.
