Viola, Dennerlein Take Morris County Titles at Frosh/Soph Track Meet; Cougar Freshman 2nd Overall

MADISON, NJ - Runners Sam Viola and Anthony Scerbo, and shot putter Sam Dennerlein led the Chatham boys freshman team to second place at the Morris County Frosh/Soph Winter Track Championships held Tuesday at Drew University,

Randolph won the freshman team title with 56 points and the Cougars were second with 45 points. In the sophomore division, Chatham's team placed 10th, led by Kristian Roos and Julian de Keyser.

Viola set a personal record in the 300-meter run with a winning time of 39.23. Dennerlein won gold in the shot put with a heave of 41 feet, 8 1/4 inches,

Scerbo had an outstanding meet, producing three silver medals for Chatham. He was second in the 600 with a personal record time of 1:31.3; second in the 1,000-meter run in 2:53.09, and led off the Cougar 4x400 relay, which placed second.

Chatham sophomore Roos was fourth in the 12-pound shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 3 1/4 inches and sixth in the 55-meter high hurdles with a personal record time of 8.84. De Keyser placed third in the pole vault by clearing nine feet.

Other Chatham freshman performances of note:

High Hurdles:  Ben Prill;  7th place with PR time of 9.68 in prelims.
1600:             Alec Gironda;  6th place in PR time of 4:57.09
4 X 400:        2nd place;  Team time of 3:55.83;  team of Anthony Scerbo, Sam Viola, Luke dePlessis and Mike Culleton.

Chatham Sophomores:
4 X 400:  7th place in 4:06;  team of Kacper Bardecki, Kristian Roos, Collin Goldbach and Patrick O'Brian.

1600:  8th place;  Yuwen Zhang,  PR time of 5:03.88
