CHATHAM, NJ - There was a mutual moment of admiration for young Jets quarterback Sam Darnold and his four-year-old fan, Andrew Wexler, on Tuesday evening at Legends Gallery.
Darnold couldn't help but break out in a big smile when he was greeted by the Chatham youngster wearing a Jets hat and a Jets jersey with his number on it.
"I'm very excited," Matt Wexler, Andrew's dad, said. "The quarterback is awesome, he's a breath of fresh air. He's franchise quarterback."
The line of Jets fans spilled out onto the sidewalk outside of Legends Gallery on Main Steet in Chatham, stretching to the Bank of America on the corner. All were there to grab an autograph or a photo with the 21-year-old quarterback, whose Jets are on a two-game winning streak.
Jose Martinez of Union City, a Jets fan for 27 years, had a helmet autographed by Darnold, making sure he was the first in line by arriving at 2:20 in the afternoon for the scheduled 6:30 p.m. signing.
