THEATER IN TOWN! Thomas Kyd’s The Spanish Tragedy
The Hudson Shakespeare Company will present a production of Thomas Kyd’s The Spanish Tragedy (with additions by William Shakespeare). Spain and Portugal have met a bitter end to their war. Don Andrea, a soldier slain in war, is sent to the underworld and meets the spirit of Revenge who agrees to help get revenge on Prince Balthazar. To bring peace, Prince Lorenzo hopes to marry off his sister, Bel-Imperia, to Prince Balthazar. However, she is in love with Horatio, so Lorenzo and Balthazar conspire to get rid of him. Horatio’s father, Hieronimo, vows revenge but must first find the killers. How will all of this play out in this dark tale of murder, revenge, passion, and love? You’ll have to come and find out in this popular early modern tragedy perfect for the Halloween season!
