WASHINGTON, D.C. — Chatham Middle School student Sofia Sorvino took home a Gold National Bid from Coastal Cheer and Dance in the Battle at the Capital this past weekend.

Sorvino is a flyer on the Jerzey Jewelz Sapphires, based in Westfield. She is also a Chatham Football Cheerleader.

Jerzey Jewelz Sapphires Cheer competition team won the Battle in the Capital National Championship at the Gaylord National Resort in National Harbor, MD on Feb. 23-24.

Jerzey Jewels Cheer Sapphires team competed on Saturday in the Level Senior Prep 1.1 division. Competing were teams from  New Jersey, New York, Virginia, West Virginia, Arizona and Pennsylvania. The overall spirit of the teams was quite sportsmanlike as the teams wished each other good luck.

The JJ Sapphires team took home zero deductions from their routine, they won Grand Champions (highest score in prep and novice division ) and took home a paid Gold bid qualifying her team for US Finals Cheer Nationals. The team is currently undefeated.

All competitors received a national champion medal. The team received their first team jackets.
