CHATHAM, NJ - It was set up as a shorter route down Washington Avenue, with barriers placed at Cherry Lane, to beat the rain. And it worked out fine until the drops started to come down harder.

The annual Washington School Halloween Parade went off as scheduled, but when the drizzle turned into a steady rain, the teachers made a quick U-turn with the costumed students and headed back to the school to dry off.

The Chatham High Marching Band, under the direction of Brian Conti, led the parade, playing "Thriller."
