CHATHAM, NJ - The Borough of Chatham Council passed a resolution at its regular meeting on Monday night that will allow Boxcar Inc. to continue providing commuter bus service from the Chatham Train Station to New York City.

The bus service picks up commuters in Madison and then comes to Chatham at 7:05 a.m. for its non-stop service into Penn Station and continues to 34th and Park Avenue. The final stop is 41st and Park. Riders can reserve a seat through the Boxcar App.

The council had passed a resolution on June 26, allowing for the bus parking in order to alleviate the disruption of train service caused by NJ Transit's construction over the summer months. The resolution authorizes "commuter bus parking at designated locations in Parking Lot No. 1 (Railroad Plaza North)."

In the seven weeks the service was available over the summer, Boxcar provided 1,066 rides to New York and 265 return rides.

"The summer went really well, commuters are really enjoying our service," Joe Colangelo, CEO of Boxcar, said. "The wi-fi is faster than at my house. It has power outlets at every seat. There is a water bottle at every seat. Commuters are able to relax and get a lot closer to their destination than they might otherwise."
