CHATHAM, NJ - Chatham Township Mayor Curt Ritter is making plans to ease the commuting woes that will begin to affect commuters to New York City, like himself, starting next month and he offered one solution at the regular meeting of the Chatham Township Committee on Thursday night.

"We are pleased to work with the private sector to help alleviate parking and commuting issues for Township residents," Ritter said. "There are few things as stressful as one's commute and we will continue to seek solutions for our residents who commute through the Chatham train station."

Joe Colangelo, president of Boxcar, a startup that helps people reserve parking spaces near train stations, has organized luxury bus service that will start July 10 when NJ Transit plans to divert the Midtown Direct to Hoboken for all trains that leave after 7 a.m.

Boxcar has plans to provide Express Bus Service for commuters in Madison, Summit, Short Hills, Millburn and Chatham Township. The plan also includes Chatham Borough, where the buses would lave from the train station at 7:15 a.m. Approval of the plan will be discussed Monday, June 26 at the regular meeting of the Borough of Chatham Council.

"Madison, Summit, Short HIlls and Millburn have already agreed to the bus service plan and they are waiting for the Chatham Borough (Council) folks to act," Ritter said. "I strongly encourage them to support this."

During the public portion of the meeting, resident Julia Turco brought up her concerns about the NJ Transit delays, especially on the return trip to New Jersey. Her husband is already experiencing long delays in getting home.

"The big problem is getting out," Turco said.

Turco said she looked into getting bus service from the Secaucus station to Chatham, with pickups at 6 and 8 p.m. She was quoted a price of $600 per day.

"I would support something like that if there was enough interest," Ritter said.
