T.M. Ward Coffee has been a staple in Chatham for the past 28 years. Located at 7 South Passaic Avenue, the charming shop is famous for its delicious coffee and teas (they have over 100 roasts just in this location). The store is known for its beautiful gift baskets and unique gifts that can be shipped all over the US.
The owner, Axlyn Sommer, and her late husband, Bob, are also well known in town. Axlyn and Bob raised their children in Chatham and their sons continue to run the family business in the Newark, New Jersey and Norwalk, Connecticut locations. All the coffee is roasted at the Norwalk location and is then shipped to the Newark location, which is the original store that just celebrated its 150th year anniversary.
To the adults in town they are known as a coffee and gift shop, but to the children, they are known as the candy store. There are lots of treats for the whole family. They carry beautiful tabletop decor and lots of Chatham items for the new neighbors or proud Chathamites.
For now, the stores hours have changed to 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The store is still open to the public, but they are limiting the number of people in the store at a time to keep everyone healthy. They are also accepting phone orders 973-635-8929 and your order will be ready for pickup without any contact.
Where the Chatham location is busy making coffee for FLAG (Front Line Appreciation Group) to supply to our healthcare workers, their Newark location is supporting their community with a fundraiser to support St. John’s Soup Kitchen. Every time you order a pound of coffee TM Ward will donate a pound to St. John’s. Their website is @tmwardcoffee.com
