CHATHAM, NJ - The lottery for Chatham's tuition-based full-day kindergarten program will take place after school on Thursday, March 5 at each of the three elementary schools it was announced by Chatham Superintendent Michael LaSusa at Monday's regular board of education meeting.
LaSusa said there were about 160 applicants for the 72 spots that will be selected through the lottery, with 24 students picked from the pool at each of the elementary schools, Milton, Southern Boulevard and Washington.
"Demand has outpaced the number of slots we have in each school," LaSusa said. "We will hold the drawing at each school building after school on Thursday."
The remaining 88 students who are not selected will be put on a waiting list in case an opening comes up. The cost for the full-day program is funded by the tuition of $7,000 per year.
