CHATHAM, NJ - Madi Blanchard, a senior at Chatham High, won "Best in Show" at the Morris County Teen Arts Festival this month for her entry "Portrait Triptych."
Blanchard received a $50 gift card, the coveted cover of all of next year's promotional materials for the Teen Arts Festival, and the opportunity to show her work at the NJ State Teen Arts Festival exhibit in Ocean County.
Chatham High art teachers Kiera Spadaro, Eric Hreha, and Candace Hull accepted the first-place trophy on behalf of CHS for earning the most ribbons in Morris County at the awards reception held at the County College of Morris on May 16.
Chatham has finished in the top five at the art festival for more than 10 straight years.
Blanchard was among 14 Chatham High students who received top honors. There were more than 200 pieces of art entered the annual teen festival.
Five CHS students won blue ribbons: Jasmine Lewin, Sara Szalay, Christina Losacco, Maia Horowitz, and Kevin Ferreira.
Eight Chatham students won red ribbons: Hannah Wetter, Naomi Ross, Eliza Kaye, Amelia Sleeman, Erica Iizuka, Meghan Johnston Ella Wagner and Angela Imanuel.
CCM faculty served as judges to award 10 gold "Best in Show" ribbons, twenty-five blue "High Distinction" ribbons and fifty red "Distinction" ribbons.
Forty CHS students attended the Teen Arts Festival field trip, at which they were able to sit in with CCM professors for a variety of workshops. The experiences ranged from ceramic bowl making, to watercolor, to using the sewing studio, to figure drawing with a live model.
