To the Editor:
I love Chatham, and I am deeply committed to the community here. That’s why I will be voting for three candidates who have a vision and a long-term plan for making Chatham an even better version of its beautiful self: Democrats Thad Kobylarz for Mayor and Irene Treloar and Karen Koronkiewicz for Borough Council.
After starting my family in Chatham, a work-related 6-year sojourn moved us to in El Segundo, CA. When the possibility arose to return to the East Coast and New Jersey, I knew that I would be returning back to Chatham with my four children. Upon our return, I knew that it was important to become involved with the community and with that came the opportunity to meet Thad Kobylarz. Thad was eager to share his ideas for revitalizing Chatham’s downtown and River Road area and it began a conversation regarding the community we had recently moved from. I told him about El Segundo’s success in renewing its under-utilized and forgotten commercial district by attracting startup and new economy companies, which in turn boosted local shops and eateries. Thad was intrigued, and flew out to California on his own dime to meet with El Segundo’s political and commercial leaders. He was determined to learn from El Segundo’s success, and adopt the best practices he observed in action on the ground. He has since stayed in touch with El Segundo’s leadership to continue to gain insight into the process he hopes to activate in Chatham, a community of similar size and affluence. I can’t tell you how impressed I am with a Council member and mayoral candidate who is willing to invest that much time, energy, and thought to find the best route to Chatham’s success.
Thad has two fantastic candidates running alongside him as well. Irene and I have children in the same grade and were in the same class at Milton Avenue School, and over the years, I have seen first-hand her dedication to the well-being of her own and everyone’s children in Chatham, her involvement with the school system, and her investment in keeping Chatham safe and environmentally friendly. I know Karen through the Democratic Club of the Chathams, and I am in awe of her ability to engage with everyone in a room, and find commonalities, connections, and mutual interests. I appreciate her focus on finding ways to make environmental initiatives easy and practical. I feel Karen’s extensive experience in business will be invaluable in helping identify and grow opportunities for Chatham to thrive.
I hope you will join me in voting for Thad, Irene, and Karen on November 5, as an investment in Chatham’s long-term thriving.
