To the Editor:
We want to express our disappointment that Township Candidates Rez Estevez and Mark Hamilton are refusing to participate in the League of Women Voters Forum. Their campaign platform calls for integrity and transparency. But their refusal to participate is anything but transparent and lacks the integrity of wanting to present their ideas for township residents to hear.
Candidates Stacey Ewald and Celeste Fondaco had confirmed their participation in the LWV Candidate Forum and we were looking forward to cutting through partisan rhetoric to discuss the issues and how best we can serve our community.
Chatham Township is facing many challenges including the construction of affordable housing, deteriorating, out-of-compliance municipal facilities, tax increases to pay down debt, addressing power outages, an aging stormwater system and the contraction of tax ratables and revenues.
Residents deserve to hear how candidates they will place their trust in will address these issues. Everyone loses when one side chooses to hide their positions from the public.
We thank the League of Women Voters for the wonderful work they do engaging voters and for their efforts in trying to coordinate the Township's Candidate Forum.
