The Chatham Athletic Foundation was formed in 2005 by Chatham parents in an effort to benefit youth athletics for K-8 students. The goal was to lighten the financial burden on local government/school district on improving or maintaining athletic fields within Chatham Township and Chatham Borough.

The first collaborative fundraising effort by CAF was for the restoration of Lum Avenue Field. CAF also raised money to restore the Shunpike Field Complex. Since 2005, CAF has raised more than $2 million dollars for Chatham athletic fields.
