Grace Nugent, a 16-year-old Girl Scout from Chatham High School, is seeking her Gold Award, through her project, “Giving Gardens”.

Nugent chose to focus on helping to increase the number of fresh fruits and vegetables that families in need have access to by building six hydroponic gardens, using donated materials. She is putting them in the hands and homes of families that are experiencing food scarcity in our communities.

The hydroponic gardens come complete and ready to use, stocked with seeds and everything needed to grow a garden in a 5-gallon bucket.

When current families no longer have the need for them, the Chatham High School Garden Club will receive the used gardens from community volunteers and restock them for future families to use.
