CHATHAM, NJ - Children could be seen playing on the restored train on Thursday that now stands in the middle or Reasoner Park near the Gazebo.

Once again, longtime Chatham resident Jeff Davis has come through for his hometown by taking the old Stanley Church children's play structure and making it look brand new.

Borough of Chatham Council member Vicki Fife had heard that the old wooden train was going to be trashed and she contacted Davis, who made the repairs and relocated the restored train to Reasoner Park in time for the Light Up Chatham event on Thursday.

"I can't tell you how excited I am about the train," Fife said.

Davis, the semi-retired owner of Specialized Auto Craft on Ogden Street, always talks about giving back to the community, and he lives by his own words. In April of 2017, Davis completed the detailed repainting of the clock at Reasoner Park.

In September of the same year, he built the two-sided sign that stands in front of Cougar Field on Shunpike Road.
