CHATHAM, NJ - The Borough of Chatham Council proclaimed Saturday, Nov. 24, as "Small Business Saturday" at its regular meeting on Monday night.

The council noted in its proclamation read into the record that "small businesses create more than two-thirds of the net new jobs and generate close to half of the private gross domestic product."

It also pointed out that "99 percent of United States consumers believe that it's important to support the local small businesses they value in their community and agree that locally owned independent businesses contribute positively through providing jobs and paying taxes."

Attending the borough council meeting to receive the proclamation were Ellen Eppie, proprietor of Scooch A Mi Boutique, located on North Passaic Avenue in Chatham, and Sandy Casey of the Purple Aardvark on Main Street.
