Chatham Borough will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the women's right to vote by lighting the front entrance to Borough Hall purple for the Week of Feb. 10.
Purple is one of the colors associated with the women's suffrage movement in New Jersey.
The 19th Amendment to the Constitution states: "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."
The 19th amendment was ratified Aug. 18, 1920.
