CHATHAM, NJ - The Coronavirus pandemic has halted the Chatham Borough Fire Department's streak of consecutive Fourth of July Parades at 65 in a row.
The CBFD made the announcement on its Facebook page Tuesday that the 66th annual parade will not take place in 2020.
See the message below:
Chatham Fire Department has been closely monitoring the constantly changing COVID-19 Pandemic. After much debate, consideration and out of an abundance of caution, we have made the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 4th of July Parade & Fireworks. This was not an easy decision to make, but we feel this is necessary to keep the community safe. All tickets for the 2020 Fireworks will be honored at the 2021 Fireworks. We will see you next year at the July 4th, 2021 celebration!
One tradition will continue in the Borough this Independence Day. The Fire Department Association will hold its annual flag raising at Reasoner Park on July 4 at 9:15 am. The event may be live-streamed to limit the number of people in attendance.
