CHATHAM, NJ - In his eighth year as a member of the Chatham Township Police Department, Anthony LoPorto was promoted to the rank of sergeant on Thursday night at the regular meeting of the Chatham Township Committee.

A resident of Chatham Township, LoPorto was joined during the ceremony by his wife, Lauren, and sons Cole (5) and Austin (3), His sons held the bible up as he was sworn in by Deputy Mayor Mike Kelly and his wife followed by pinning on his sergeant's badge.

LoPorto will now supervise the patrol division, switching over from his recent three-year stint as a detective. He also assists in training recruits at the Morris County Police Academy.

LoPorto was recognized for his role in saving the life of Chatham Township resident Betsy Boles in 2015.

Prior to joining the Chatham Township Police Department in 2011, LoPorto was a patrolman in Riverdale.

LoPorto served four years in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed in Pearl Harbor. He also served one year as an active reserve.
