CHATHAM, NJ - A suspected car thief was taken into custody with the help of the Chatham Township Police in the early morning hours Sunday after abandoning a stolen vehicle on Lake Road.

"A stolen vehicle from Franklin Lakes was pursued into Chatham Township and the suspect bailed out of the stolen vehicle on Lake Road," Chatham Township Police Chief Thomas Miller said. "Several officers from neighboring jurisdictions set up a perimeter and searched the area with the assistance of the Morris County Sheriffs Office K9 unit.

"The suspect, a juvenile male from Newark, was located and he subsequently surrendered to police. He was taken into custody without incident."
