CHATHAM, NJ - The public will have to wait until next month to weigh in on the developer plans for Dixie Dale and Arbor Green at Chatham due to the abrupt adjournment of the Chatham Township Planning Board meeting on Monday night.

Representatives for Sterling/Sun cited "legal and engineering" issues in asking for the adjournment.

"Given the requirement for Sterling Sun counsel and professionals to be present during public comment on the application, which they were not, the meeting was quickly adjourned," Karen Swartz, planning board member, said.

"Representatives from Sterling Sun Homes felt continuing to address the Dixie Dale application in public hearing without carefully considering these matters would not be in their best interests. These matters were apparently raised to Sterling Sun very late in the day Monday and the Planning Board has not had a chance to review. An Executive Session of the Planning Board would have to be an agenda item, barring an emergency, which this is not.  And so while there may be an Executive Session in the future which will be publicly noticed, there was not a calling for one this evening."

In addition to the site plan and bulk variances for Dixie Dale (Sterling/Sun at Chatham LLC), the affordable housing plans and variances up for approval of Arbor Green at Chatham - the development at the Skatepark on Southern Boulevard - was also on the agenda.

According to the township calendar, the next work meeting of the planning board is set for Sept. 9. The next regular meeting of the planning board is Sept. 23.
