CHATHAM, NJ – For three generations Weichert Chatham has accentuated giving back to the community, and that has been particularly evident through their big-hearted efforts over the last six months. From their Christmas in July celebration to the Suicide Prevention Walk, the Halloween Costume Drive and most recently its 40th annual Holiday Toy Drive, Weichert Chatham is doing their part in the community.

The Weichert Family of Companies collected more than 13,100 new toys for families and children in need this holiday season. They also collected and donated cash and gift cards to various charities as well as food, clothing, diapers and art supplies.

Among the charitable organizations that were beneficiaries of the toy drive include: Goryeb Children’s Hospital, Oasis – A Haven for Women and Children, Holton’s Heroes, Market Street Mission, OneUmbrella Foundation, CASA for Children, Third Street Alliance for Women & Children, Ocean of Love for Children with Cancer, and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. All of which are located in the communities that Weichert serves.

“For 40 years, the Weichert Family of Companies has been holding its annual toy drive to benefit those who need help in the communities where we do business. We are honored to continue this tradition year after year, as it brings a great deal of joy to so many children and their families during the holiday season,” said Jim Weichert, president, chairman and CEO of Weichert Companies. “Once again, there was tremendous support and generosity from Weichert sales associates and employees, as well as our clients and the residents and businesses in the communities we serve.”

Back in October, Weichert Chatham donated 75 Halloween costumes to children through the non-profit Jersey Cares, an organization dedicated to making a positive difference by addressing critical community-identified needs.

“When I first found out about the program, I knew it was something that we wanted to help participate in,” said Diane Walsh, office manager at the Weichert Chatham location. “Halloween is such a big deal for children when they are little – it’s something that my kids still talk about it.”

Chatham has an outstanding track record for community service and it hasn’t gone unnoticed, Walsh says.

“I’m always amazed at the support the community continues to offer,” Walsh added. “People in this community take such pride in wanting to help others and we’re proud to be a part of it.”

“We feel as members of this community and as people who live here, it’s important to give back,” explained Mary Weichert, who has been a broker associate with the company for nearly two decades. “There’s so much we can do to help. You can be a good person and be successful.”

Giving back seems to be something that’s in the Weichert’s DNA. Their Christmas in July benefit event for the children at the Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside brought smiles on countless families’ faces. In fact, Weichert raised enough money through gift cards that the hospital was able to buy all of the kids’ swimsuits for their occupational therapy program.

“We’re successful in our real estate careers, but we enjoy giving back to those who are less fortunate,” she added. “This is something that we were proud to be able to help with.”

Over the summer, Weichert participated in Chatham's third annual ‘Out of The Darkness’ walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which has collaboratively raised more than $150,000 towards the cause thanks to the support of local businesses such as the family-owned real estate agency.

Their selfless efforts were also on display this Fall as they helped North Carolina victims of Hurricane Florence with a donation of hundreds of non-perishable items through the help of Sandy Cares, a New Jersey-based non-profit organization that assists families directly affected by hurricanes and other natural disasters.

“Township officials naturally reach out to us for these types of benefit events because of our participation in the past, and we’re always willing to help,” suggests John Tunny, a broker associate with Weichert Chatham for over 20 years. “We really feel that part of our mission here is to give back to the community.”

That community service mentality translates into the real estate agency’s success with the morale of its employees in the company. The family-owned real estate agency ranks as the 108th best place to work in America, according to Forbes.
