MENDHAM, NJ - Cleo Bley, Jen Olnowich and Elizabeth Droner scored a goal apiece and Cate Hackett earned the shutout as Chatham opened its girls' soccer season with a 3-0 win at Mendham on Wednesday.
The first goal of the season for Chatham started with a cross from Kayleigh Coughlin that Olnowich touched to Bley at the top of the penalty area, where Bley finished by sliding the ball past the onrushing Mendham keeper.
Cougar senior Lizzie O'Neill ran onto a ball hit over the Mendham defense and took a shot that was saved before Olnowich knocked in the rebound to make it a 2-0 game before the halftime break.
In the second half, Meryn Dziemian sent a pass forward to Droner, who turned and hit the top corner of the net from 25 yards out for a 3-0 advantage.
"Very positive start to the season, sets the tone for the girls, but need to keep moving forward and focus on Saturday's game with Bernards," Chatham coach Gary Adair said.
