MADISON, Wisc. - Joe Barrett, a 12-year-old Chatham 7th Grader, placed third in the 3,000-meter race for 11-12 year-old boys in the USATF Hersey National Junior Olympic Cross-Country Championship held over the weekend in Wisconsin.
Barrett missed out on second place by a mere :0.01. He averaged 5:23 per mile for a personal-best time of 10:02.
To qualify, Barrett took first place at the USATF Region 2 Junior Olympic XC Championship on Nov. 17 in Grand Island, NY. His time in that race was 10:39.
Another notable performance at that regional race came from Julianna Falzarano of Chatham who placed 6th in the region with a time of 13:26.63 in the 9-10 year-old girls division.
