CHATHAM, NJ - Mohammed "Mo" Abdelaziz was unanimously approved as the new Chatham High Athletic Director on Monday night during the regular meeting of the Chatham Board of Education.
Abdelaziz, 35, will start at a date to be determined after he gives his formal notice to Orange High, where he was the athletic director and vice principal for the last seven years.
Chatham Superintendent Michael LaSusa told the BOE (see video below) that Abdelaziz was selected from 80 applicants for the position after a "lengthy" process. Abdelaziz takes over the position held by Bill Librera, who left the district to become the principal of Watchung Hills High.
Before his tenure at Orange, Abdelaziz was a physical education teacher at Central High in Newark, where he was the head baseball coach and head girls volleyball coach.
Abdelaziz was named the Male Athlete of the Year at Jonathan Dayton High in Springfield when he was a senior in 2002. He played four years of varsity soccer, two years of varsity basketball and also ran on the varsity track team for two years at Dayton.
Abdelaziz earned his B.S. and Masters degrees from Montclair State University.
