TOMS RIVER, NJ - Chatham senior Anthony Scerbo earned automatic entry into the Meet of Champions by winning the Group 3 state championship in the 800-meter run Saturday, and he'll be joined by Cougar classmates Alec Gironda, Sam Viola and Sam Dennerlein, who all earned wild card spots in the MOC.

The Meet of Champions will be held Sunday, March 8 at Ocean Breeze on Staten Island.

Scerbo won the state Group 3 title in the 800 in a school-record time of 1:57.35, breaking the Chatham record of 1:57.58 set by Chris Black while winning the Group 2 championship in 2008.

There are 12 wild cards assigned for each event and Chatham received three such entries with Gironda placing fourth in the 3200-meter run in 9:35.53; Viola setting a personal record of 51.47 in placing sixth in the 400, and Dennerlein placing seventh in the shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 8 inches.
