CHATHAM, NJ - The Chatham High School varsity fencing program, which began as a parent funded team for the 2010-2011 season, marks its 10th season Thursday with a 6 p.m. matchup vs. Morris Knolls at the Chatham Middle School.
Both the Chatham boys and girls teams are the defending NJAC conference champions.

The Cougar girls are lead by team captain senior epee Dorothy Zhang. The boys are lead by team captain senior epee Ahmer Kahn.

The epee squads are coached by one of the 2010 founding team members Hunter Stusnick who finished in the top 64 of Division 1 Men's Epee at the December North American Cup.

Returning for the girls are Ghosh, Jordan, and Krishnan. They are joined by newcomers Tomishima and Jois. The boys see the return of Kudalkar and the class of 2022s' five amigos, Blanchard, Dwyer, Khan, Lacy, and Lee, while adding newcomer Wahidy.

The foil squads are lead by Senior squad captains Amy Zheng and Aidan West and their new coach, Jim Powers. Coach Powers is a veteran of New Jersey high school fencing. He fenced at Essex Catholic HS and NYU and went on to coached both Montclair Kimberly Academy and West Essex High. The girls' starting line up of Zheng, Julius, Serban, and Kim returns. The boys lose last year's senior foilist Zeareban and add incoming freshman and experienced tournament fencer Gallucci and newcomer Gianusso, while keeping Mahon, Eck, Yeakel, Sallinger, Halkiopoulus, and Marrinan.

The sabre squads are lead by captains Izzy Gianusso and Preston Yen. Chatham's dominating sabre squads of last season have lost Darren Yen to NYU, as well as Hong and Sathyanath to other pursuits.

Returning for the girls are Haq, Fidler, Zhang, and Xikes last year's District 1 Champion. The boys' will see Liu, Epstein, Haq, Henwood and Stern stepping up. They will be joined by freshman tournament fencers Kaplan and Hong and newcomer Gallop. Sahana Kumar will take on the role of Team Manager. Head Coach and sabre coach Jerry Duffey returns for his fifth season with the team.

The fencing team will travel to Randolph High School on Saturday, January 4th, for the Morris County Fencing Tournament.
