CHATHAM, NJ - The "Single Ladies" of the 2018-2019 Chatham girls basketball team took the cue from Beyonce's 2008 Grammy Award Song of the Year to put a ring on their state sectional championship season.

During lunchtime on Thursday, Dan Ciprut of Jostens delivered the rings to the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 state champions in coach Joe Gaba's classroom. The girls got the idea from the 2018 boys sectional championship team, which also reached the Group 3 state final.

"The boys had them from the Mac Bredahl, Jack Rooney team," Maddie Hartnett said.

The girls paid for their own rings. Sue McAloon had her nickname "Snack" engraved on the inside of her ring. Seniors from that team, Michaela Ford, Kaitlyn Ford, Alexa Riso and Olivia Mathern, were not in attendance but also bought the rings.

Chatham defeated Warren Hills for the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 State Championship and then topped Pascack Hills, in overtime, in the Group 3 state semifinals. The Cougars were runner-up to Mainland Regional in the Group 3 state final.
