RANDOLPH, NJ - Chatham sophomore Kat Xikes went undefeated in winning the overall individual sabre title as the Chatham girls fencing team placed second at the Morris County Fencing Championships held Saturday at Randolph High.

Chatham finished as the runner-up to Morris Hills, which edged the Cougars by a one-bout margin. Chatham last won the MCT team title in 2013.

The all-sophomore sabre squad of Xikes, Sara Fidler and Cynthia Zhang led the way for Chatham with a 22-5 record, including 3-0 sweeps over six opponents.

Chatham's foil squad of senior Amy Zheng, junior Sonia Julius and junior Aree Kim went 18-9, with Zheng going undefeated in the team competition and Julius posting an 8-1 log. Both advanced to the individual championships.

The Cougars epee team of senior captain Dorothy Zhang, junior Elysa Jordan and sophomore Amudha Krishnan won 15 bouts. Krishnan went 7-2 in earning a spot in the individual championships.



For the first time, the Morris County Championship individual round was live-streamed on professional video including commentary by Drew Fencing head coach, Vince Paragano (see below). 

Chatham is featured in the last four minutes of the video. While Chatham's Krishnan wins the final bout of the day in the girls competition, Chatham's Jonah Blanchard can be seen in the background winning his individual MCT epee title.

The Chatham fencing team will travel to West Morris Central on Monday, host Millburn at the Middle School on Wednesday, and travel to Morristown on Thursday.
