CHATHAM, NJ - Chatham opened its 10th season of women's fencing with a 15-12 win over Morris Knolls on Thursday.

Kat Xikes, Amy Zheng, Sonia Julius, Samantha Serban, and Anushka Jois all went undefeated for Chatham in the win.

Round one score: Chatham 4, MK 5 (Sabres 2-1, Foils 2-1, Epees 0-3)
Sophomore Sabre Kat Xikes opened with a 5-0 win. Sophomore Sara Fidler followed with a second 5-0. Sophomore Cynthia Zhang pushed her Morris Knolls opponent to a tied bout that barely went to the Eagles. Foils Amy Zheng and Sonia Julius added a pair of 5-1 wins. Aree Kim's bout tilted for Morris Knolls. The Knolls epees swept through round one.

Round two score: Chatham 6, MK 3 (Sabres 1-2, Foils 3-0, Epees 2-1)
The sabres subbed in Sophomore Nylah Haq and lost a little ground pulling in one win and two losses. Foils Julius, Zheng, and Sophomore Samantha Serban added a 3-0 round two sweep. Chatham epees Junior Elysa Jordan, Sophomore Amudha Krishnan, and Senior Dorothy Zhang gained ground for the team bringing in two wins to MK's one.

Round three score: Chatham 5, Morris Knolls 4 (Sabres 1-2, Foils 3-0, Epees 1-2)
Xikes saved a tied bout with a 5-4 win. The Morris Knolls sabres reeled in the other two. Foils Serban, Zheng, and Julius clinched the meet with a sweep of round three allowing only one touch from the Eagles' foils. With the pressure off, Coach Joshua Gertner swapped out all of the epee for Senior Annesha Ghosh and new Freshmen team members Sydney Tomishima and Anushka Jois. Both Ghosh and Tomishima fought all the way to 4-4 with Knolls taking the final touch against each epee. Jois was able to hold off her opponent and bring in her first fencing win with a 5-3 score.

This is the Cougar girls' third consecutive NJAC season victory over the Golden Eagles. Xikes, Zheng, Julius, Serban, and Jois went undefeated for the night.
