MADISON, NJ - Senior Sam Dennerlein set a Chatham school record in the shot put with a throw of 52 feet, 3.5 inches while leading the Cougars to first in the shot put relays in the Gardiner Holiday Relays held Saturday at Drew University.
Dennerlein broke the school record of 51 feet, 11.5 inches set by his older brother, Ed.
Dennerlein teamed up with Kevin Ferreira, who made a personal-best throw of 40 feet, 4.5 inches, to take first place. The two combined for a distance of 92 feet, 8 inches.
Chatham's 4x200 relay team of twins Ryan and Ben Krill, Mike Culleton and Jack Powers clocked 1:37.5 to place first. The Cougars also placed second in the 4x400 relay with Patrick Grosso, Culleton and the Krill brothers finishing with a time of 3:42.7.
The high jump team of Tom DePinto and Kyle Kressler combined to clear 11 feet, 8 inches in gaining second place for Chatham. Each equaled their personal-best height of 5 feet, 10 inches.
The Cougars also placed third in the distance medley relay with Anthony Scerbo, Patrick Grosso, Sean Dutton and Alec Gironda combining for a time of 11:04.24.
Chatham's 4x800 relay of Sean Dutton, Jake Fortuna, Greg Himstreet and Alex Gironda came in fifth with a time of 8:53.
