CHATHAM, NJ - Senior Maddie Hartnett scored 10 of her 12 points and junior guard Tess Ford scored all nine of her points in the first quarter when top-seeded Chatham moved to a 21-point lead in its 55-10 girls basketball victory over Irvington in the first round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 state tournament on Monday night.
Hartnett scored the first six points of the game by hitting two 3-pointers (see videos below).
Ford drained all three of her 3-pointers to score nine points in the first period (see video below), including a shot at the buzzer that dropped through to give Chatham (21-5) a 23-2 lead heading into the second period.
Senior forward Shannon Donohoe posted a double-double for the Cougars with a game-high 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Chatham will play host to No. 8 seed Summit (15-10) on Wednesday in the second round.
