MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ -- Matt Nacinovich sparked unbeaten Chatham to a quick start with two goals in the first period and Nikita Konevych clinched it with his third-period goal as the Cougars skated to a 4-2 boys ice hockey win vs. Morristown-Beard on Wednesday at Mennen Sports Arena.

Chatham (7-0-1) got two goals in the first period from Matt Nacinovich and a power-play goal by Conor Gilleece in the second to take a 3-0 lead, but weathered some scary moments from that point on.

First, senior defenseman Ryan Burke had to be helped off the ice by his Chatham teammates with 3:47 left in the second period because of a leg injury. Then Morristown-Beard (4-5) got two goals from Hollis Humphries in the third period to make it a 3-2 game with 7:45 left.

But sophomore defenseman Konevych put his mark on the game with a burst inside the blue line for a well-placed wrist shot (see below) that clinched the win with 2:04 showing and gave him a team-leading 12 goals in seven games played this season.

Sophomore forward Nacinovich boosted his season totals to seven goals and 10 assists for Chatham and Burke was able to return for some shifts in the third period for the Cougars.

Nacinovich book-ended his goals in the first period, scoring just 44 seconds into the action (see below) and then making it 2-0 with just 59 seconds left in the period.

Nacinovich received a pass from Konevych and netted his second goal when he emerged from behind the net and slipped the puck off the goalie's leg and inside the near post. Burke also was credited with an assist on the goal.

Gilleece notched the power-play goal in the second period for Chatham off a centering pass from Roman Kostrowski. Burke picked up his second assist on the play.

Junior goalie Nate May came up with 19 saves for Chatham in the win.

COUGAR NOTES: Chatham has lost its last five meetings with Randolph (4-1-2) and will be trying to break that slide when it meets the Rams, 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Mennan. The Cougars lost all three meetings with Randolph last season ... senior defenseman Doyle Curry, who scored the go-ahead goal in the third period vs. Morristown-Beard in the 6-4 season-opening win on Dec. 9 had to sit the rematch with a leg injury he suffered in practice.
