CHATHAM, NJ - The opportunity for goals off the penalty corner was right there in front of the Chatham field hockey team. All the players had to do was look up a little quicker to see them.
After a halftime talk with Chatham coach Kaitlin Leyden, the Cougars scored on three of their four penalty corner opportunities in the second half, sending them to a 4-0 victory over Mendham on Wednesday at Haas Field.
Alexa Lee scored a goal in each half and Charlotte Hamilton collected a goal and two assists for Chatham (7-3) in the win.
"We just had to execute on them," Leyden said. "They saw the openings they were giving us. They just had to look up a little bit sooner. Once we told them that, Ham (Hamilton) got a few in there and we were able to execute on them."

In the first half, Lee converted a pass from Lucy Walrond in the 22nd minute to give Chatham a 1-0 edge (see video below). But Chatham was held to one goal despite the fact that they took eight penalty corners in the first 30 minutes.
In the second half, it took just 2:22 for the Cougars to convert on a penalty corner. Carlin Chazen inserted the ball to the top or the circle and Hamilton drove it home to make it 2-0 (see video below).
About seven minutes later, Lee redirected home another drive by Hamilton off a corner for a 3-0 lead (see below).
"Alexa had an amazing game," Leyden said. "She's been working really hard to put her feet towards the goal and to make sure she stops the ball before she sweeps it. All her hard work definitely paid off today."
Another penalty corner and drive into the circle by Hamilton led to Avery Buckman's goal that closed out the scoring (see below).
