CHATHAM, NJ - Vincent Liu, Henry Epstein, Nate Eck, Jacob Mahon, and Charles Gallucci all went undefeated for the Chatham men's fencing in its 20-7 season-opening win over Morris Knolls on Thursday.
Round one score: Chatham 7, Morris Knolls 2 (Sabres 3-0, Foils 3-0, Epees 1-2)
The Cougar Sabres Senior Vincent Liu, Junior Preston Yen, and Junior Henry Epstein kicked off the Morris Knolls meet with a 3-0 sweep. Foils Senior Jacob Mahon and Senior Nate Eck and new team member Charles Gallucci doubled down with a 3-0 sweep of their own. Epee Senior Ahmer Khan finished bout victory number seven with a 5-2 score. The Knolls epee got past Sophomore Jonah Blanchard. Sophomore Michael Dwyer pushed his bout to 4-4 before it slipped in favor of the Eagles.
Round two score: Chatham 7, Morris Knolls 2 (Sabres 2-1, Foils 3-0, Epees 1-2)
The sabres excited from a great start got out of order and fenced the third round rotation order. Referee Jeff Bukantz directed the squad to fence the round two rotation the next time around and they went on with the meet. Knolls sabre Angelillo snuck past in the tiebreaker touch with Yen for the only Eagles sabre win of the night. Liu and Epstein won their bouts. Foils Eck, Gallucci, and Mahon swept again for three more wins. With the Chatham sabres bumping and the foils setting, the epees were primed for the spike. Blanchard hammered it home in the first bout with a 5-3 win and clinching the meet in the second round. Dwyer fought into another tied bout that also went for the Knolls team. Kahn fell to the C-strip epee.

Round three score: Chatham 6, Morris Knolls 3 (Sabres 3-0, Foils 3-0, Epees 1-2) Final Score 20-7
Epstein led off the final round with a 5-0 followed by 5-2 wins for Yen and Liu. Senior Aidan West was swapped in and delivered a 5-0 to the Knolls substitute. Mahon added another 5-0, followed by a 5-3 from Junior Jayden Halkiopoulus, completing the Chatham foils' 9-0 sweep. Epee Blanchard added his second win for the night. Sophomores Raaid Khan and Hayden Lacy were swapped in for the final two bouts which they both pushed to ties. The Morris Knolls epees took the last two touches and bouts.
This is the Cougar boys' fourth consecutive NJAC season victory over the Golden Eagles. Liu, Epstein, Mahon, Eck, and Gallucci went undefeated for the night. Thanks to the solid performance by the men's team, Foil fencers Nate Eck and Dylan Salinger were able to arrive on time for their vocal concert duties after the meet.
