WESTFIELD, NJ — The 7-Eleven at 800 Central Ave. was shut down and evacuated for a short time Wednesday morning after a carbon dioxide detector went off.

Westfield firefighters responded to an alarm about 8 a.m. They notified Union County HAZMAT, which came to the scene to take carbon dioxide levels. They determined that the carbon dioxide levels were within normal limits, authorities said.

The store’s manager was able to stop the leak from a 150-gallon refrigerator coolant system using an emergency shut off valve, officials said, and the store was re-opened at about 9:30 a.m.
