AL Johnson (Clark) Track Athletes Randazza and Velasquez Advance to Meet of Champions

CLARK, NJ – Seniors Gianna Randazza and Eric Velasquez will represent the Arthur L. Johnson High School in Saturday’s ‘”Meet of Champions,” the NJSIAA final winter track and field meet. 

Randazza qualified to advance with a throw of 36’ 6.5” in the shot put, putting her in sixth place overall in last weekend’s Group 1 State Group meet. Velasquez ran a 2:02.5 in the 800 meter race, also placing sixth in the Group 1 meet.

“These two athletes are not only strong competitors but also great representatives of Johnson High School,” head coach Chris Marcin said. “They epitomize what it means to be a student-athlete and I am very proud of their successes.”

The pair were two of nine track and field Crusaders who competed in the Group 1 State Group meet, the second round of the NJSIAA tournament. The competitor’s in last weekend’s events were:

  • Ibn Beyah -  High Jump
  • Grace Duffy - 55 meter dash
  • James Greenbush -  Shot Put
  • Lindsey Hofschneider  - 1600 meters
  • Gianna Randazza - Shot Put
  • Brandon Rapp - High Jump
  • Shailynn Rapp - Shot Put
  • Eric Velasquez - 800 meters
  • Kylee Zawacki - High Jump

The Meet of Champions will be held on Saturday, February 25 (Boys) and Sunday, February 26 (Girls) at 10:00 am in Toms River.
