CLARK, NJ - The Arthur L. Johnson High School Key Club directed by Ellen Zamboni, School Counselor, presented a unit on Manners to the children of the Clark Preschool recently.
The Key Club, sponsored by Kiwanis International, describes its mission on their homepage as, “an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership.
During their time at the preschool the Key Club members provided hands-on service to teach and reinforce manners, an important part of social skills training at the preschool level.
The Key Club students sang a song about manners to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Next they continued the lesson by reading the story Madeline Says Merci by John Bemelmans Marcian and then distributing handmade hands to exemplify a quiet hand. Finally, they played the game charades by performing skits requiring feedback from the children.
They ended their presentation by visiting the individual classrooms and talking with the children and asking questions to reinforce the unit content.
